Tranexamic Acid is a skin ligthening active which prevents melanin production by inhibiting tyrosinase activity. Tranexamic acid is a synthetic analog of the amino acid lysine that functions as a skin conditioning agent, serves as an astringent and has proven effective action against UV-induced hyper-pigmentation as well as possessing anti-inflammatory properties . Unlike acids such as lactic and glycolic, tranexamic acid is not considered an exfoliating acid and is safe for all skin types, complexions, and for use during pregnancy.
